To the wonderful qualities of Old Quarry Ocean Adventures and the surrounding area.

I cannot say how much these annual stays at Deer Isle mean to me…
“Rejuvenated” does not quite say it. Honestly—my weeks up there have
become a central part of my life—an extremely important chance to get
away from it all and annually assess how my life is going and catch a
quiet deep breath before getting back into the fray. For the first
time last summer I had one of my children join me—it meant not having
the quiet “soul time” I have come to cherish from past summers, and I
was not at all sure how a 12 year old boy would do for 10 days camping
in Penobscot Bay. Nonetheless it was one of the best times we ever had
together—and he is already psyched about next summer, as am I. So,
feel great about providing a wonderful respite for so many of us…and,
as I have said before, I have camped at a lot of campgrounds over the
years, but Old Quarry is in its own league…and I really mean that. |

| Old Quarry is a kayaker’s dream camping spot. Walking distance to hot
showers with private walk in campsite over looking the water. |
|
| I’m the first guest of the season, feel kind of honored…very nice
sites, very nice location, peaceful, relaxed & charming hosts.
Beautiful & interesting walk in the old quarry. There, in between the
trees, was something mystic that also Steinbeck sensed where he came
to the isle in 1962. Will definitely come back, if I have the chance,
wish you all the best and a beautiful & successful summer! |

| Dear Bill, First, congratulations on your Maine Tourism Award. It
must be very gratifying to have that level of recognition for your
business. You certainly have developed a very attractive and needed
business. I hope it inspires others to do likewise. There are
several of us in the stewardship end who are also very grateful that
your boat stays in the water for the winter and provides the
opportunity to continue our work year round. |

| I had the best 4th of July camping trip ever! We felt so welcome and
taken care of! Thanks a million to Gudrun, Wendy, Christine, annie
and Capt. Bill. Lily got over her fear of seals and loved the big
crabs in the lobster traps. The 3 hour tour on the Nigh Duck was
fabulous. Green Island Quarry swimming is a must! We’ll be back in
August! Have a great summer! |
|
| Thanks all for 2 weeks of peace, Gudrun for the helpful nature guides,
Todd for Armen’s kayaking adventures, Annie for being the BEST
surrogate big sister. Capt Bill remains a family hero. Good Fall, |

| Dear Bill: Thank you for the excellent service going to/from Little
Coot (aka the Little Combs). I feel really stupid for not returning
to Maine for 20 years – it is so beautiful there. Thanks for showing
us seals, porpoises, etc. and for letting the girls drive. They all
had fun. We’ll definitely call you again next time we’re in the area.
We all also want to try some kayaking. Regards, |

| Drove up from Washington DC on a whim to escape stress, rain and the
US Blues. Was worth every mile of the drive! Beautiful! Brent our
guide, was awesome, saw either the same seal three times or three
different seals. Swam in the quarry. We hope to be back. |

| We’ve traveled from Springfield, Mass. This weekend was wonderful!
The camp was great and very convenient. Weather was excellent – but
the very best – our kayaking trip with our guide Todd. We love your
facilities and your hospitality. Thanks for everything! |
|
| Dear Bill, THANK YOU!!!! All I have heard is rave reviews of the boat
trip yesterday. One woman came in with almost tears in her eyes to
say how wonderful it had been. It is a great PR and educational
opportunity for IHT and that is much appreciated. Finally, the Board
is beginning to realize that maybe this is something THEY should do…in
part because we have fewer board members now with their own boats and
ready access to the islands. We did invite a couple major donors on
the trip as complimentary guests. SO it seems to have been successful
on all accounts. |
