Island Boat Trips

View of Acadia National Park from Frenchboro IslandThese day long Island Boat Trips are a wonderful way to see the Maine Coast from the water. The beauty of the hundreds of spruce covered and rock bound islands in the Penobscot and Jerico Bays will astound you. There are few places in the world as breathtaking. To make these boat trips even more interesting you will be able to visit a few of these small magical islands where some pretty determined and independent folks live and work.

Many of these people are either lobstermen or folks who have something to do with the fishing industry. Many of them and their families have been on these islands for many generations. There are traditions and a way of life that make for some interesting cultural differences.

In your few hours on these small wonderful islands you will be able to walk or ride a bike through these villages with boats, traps, fishing gear, and lobster shacks, all bunched together. On some of the islands a bike ride will bring you around part, if not all, of the island. This is a good way to see these islands. (We can bring bikes to Vinalhaven, North Haven, Swans, and Isle au Haut. Frenchboro is small enough so that you can walk through the forest paths to the cliffs; bikes are not needed.

For the Isle au Haut trip you will need to bring your lunch. For the other islands you can either bring your lunch or eat at the restaurants or take outs. Some island eateries close down after Labor Day. Please plan accordingly.

The boat rides are from 1 to 1 1/2 hours each way. There is a private head on the boat.

We rent bikes or bring your own.

You get a great and scenic boat ride and a chance to witness island life first hand.
