Maine Vacation Adventures
The Deer Isle - Stonington shoreline is absolutely gorgeous. Gateway to the 60 islands of the Deer Isle - Stonington archipelago, we have the most awesome, inspiring, and unsurpassed rugged rockbound coastline on the east coast with its solid granite and spruce covered islands all around. Thirty of these islands are open to the public for hiking, picnicking, camping, and swimming.
People come to Stonington because it is quiet, uncrowded, and peaceful. Stonington is one of the few remaining coastal fishing villages that looks much like it did 150 years ago. The Maine coastal schooner fleet sails these waters. Natural and cultural attractions abound - light houses, fog horns, granite quarries, granite museum, art galleries, and good places to dine. Marine animals including seals, porpoises and whales are found here, as well as eagles, osprey, puffins, and many other sea birds.
Stonington is the destination of choice on the Maine coast for kayakers, sailors, campers, and nature lovers. People come from around the world to boat in these waters, camp on its shores, and stay in its camps and cottages.
Old Quarry Ocean Adventures is located on Webb Cove, Buckmaster Neck, in the Oceanville section of Stonington. The area is very rural, 36 miles from Route 1. Our site is 9 acres of mostly old growth spruce forest with a very clean 1 acre swim and kayak practice pond. Shore frontage is approximately 1000 feet with granite ledges and some sandy areas. Our property abuts a 50 acre public park that was once a large granite quarry. Our walking trails lead to the park trails - a fascinating place with great views.
Old Quarry caters mainly to folks who want to experience the smells, the sounds, and the feel of the ocean.
